As part of our ongoing Mainframe to Cloud Modernization Series, we share insights and reference architectures that allow organizations to create, execute, and adjust their digital strategies faster and with superior results.

In this paper, we review edge computing and explore its impact on a replatformed 3270 terminal application. We deployed the application to equality-sized infrastructure and services on Azure and a partner edge network.

We used Astadia’s TestMatch tool to record and replay scenarios against each deployment while incrementing the number of concurrent users. TestMatch was also used to capture average response time and transaction throughput.

Finally, we present findings and guidance based on test results and discussions with partners and staff.
